Neighborhood

Bordeaux

One bridge from downtown, at the foot of the Whites Creek watershed. Middle-class and deeply rooted — Bordeaux averaged $68,528 in household income in 2000 while the burdens kept coming. The deficit was never demand. It was investment.

Issues touching Bordeaux

Active

Southern Services landfill endgame

The county's only active landfill (Waste Management C&D, Ashland City Hwy) is nearing capacity, taking WM-arranged loads only. What happens after is a defining District 1 question.

Best Brands site — Ashland City Hwy & Briley

The rezoning effort is over; construction is proceeding by right on industrial zoning (per local sources). The ethics complaint against CM Kimbrough was unanimously dismissed 10/28/2025; her defamation suit is pending.

Highland Rim Forest conservation funding

The Alliance's goal: 12,000 more conserved acres by 2040. Metro's RS2025-1549 would formally name Nashville's Highland Rim Forest; June budget hearings are the recurring pressure point.

A smaller Metro Council?

The State may compel a smaller Metro Council. If that happens, District 1's lines and representation change materially. The places on this site — and this site — aren't going anywhere.

How we got here

Bordeaux history, briefly

Two different landfills — never the same one
Closed · 1996

The old Metro landfill

County Hospital Road — Metro's municipal household-waste landfill, closed in 1996 after years of resident protest led in the Thelma Harper era. Habitat restoration began 2004; certified wildlife habitat since 2013.

Active · Near capacity

Southern Services C&D landfill

4651 Amy Lynn Drive, off Ashland City Hwy at Briley — Waste Management's construction-and-demolition landfill. Still operating, WM-arranged intake only.

  1. ~1970s–1996 Metro's municipal landfill operates on County Hospital Road for roughly two decades. Residents, led in the era of Councilwoman (later State Senator) Thelma Harper, sustain years of protest. It closes in 1996. (WPLN 2013; Tennessee Tribune 2021; Nashville Scene 2023)
  2. 2004–2013 Habitat restoration on the closed landfill begins in 2004; the site earns Wildlife Habitat Council certification in September 2013. (WPLN 9/26/2013)
  3. May 2010 The record flood. Whites Creek crests at its highest recorded level; Bordeaux, at the bottom of the watershed, takes the brunt. More than 560 landslides are later mapped, mostly within the forest's steep slopes. (FEMA photo record 2010; track-e constraints)
  4. 2026 The Legacy Project — Bordeaux's first mixed-use development — moves forward among ~$4M in Metro capital projects; districtwide construction valuations are up 49% in a year. (Metro permits open data, track-e)
